Exploring global unionism to inform South African ICT sector union strategy

Unions are prominent stakeholders in employment relations (ER), representing and protecting the rights of their members other employees on labour-related issues that workforce is overwhelmed with within workplace. The purpose this article was to examine global unionism advise South African (SA) Information Communication Technology (ICT) sector labour unionism. It focuses recent trends literature review answer five research questions. rationale gain a more theoretical understanding union roles, International Labour Organisation (ILO) conventions, unionism, SA ICT challenges strategies. Globally, drives advancements socio-economic policies, calling for social dialogue between tripartite alliances partners ER: Unions, employers, government. However, leaders weak when negotiating equity, justice, advancement careers. This study revealed include poor dialogue, ineffective strategies sustain membership, inefficient partnerships, non-collaboration management unions. By results study, strategic framework proposed effectiveness provide Human Resources (HR), ER practical tool.
